Paxton Danes ~ The Basics

Our Life with Danes
We welcomed our first Great Dane into our lives in early 2002 and every day since we have fallen more deeply in love with this noble, loving, loyal, and charismatic breed. After more than 20 years living large with our Danes, the responsibility of owning, enjoying, showing, and preserving this breed is our primary focus!
We are actively involved in the Great Dane community and are members of the Monterey Bay Great Dane Club and the Great Dane Club of America.
As breeders, we know that every litter produced will impact the future of this wonderful breed as a whole. This commitment is not one we take lightly. Each litter we produce is thoughtfully planned, breeding partners/pedigrees are carefully researched and considered with the intention to improve. We strongly believe in and support thorough health testing to a degree that meets and exceeds the guildelines put forth by OFA/CHIC programs and our parent club, the Great Dane Club of America.
Remember – This is not just a puppy;
it is a family member and a lifelong commitment
Our Danes live with us in our home, and we breed for ourselves, and those who come to us for quality in temperament, structure, health, and longevity. We believe in appropriate health testing of our breeding stock and select from the same or those dogs/pedigrees that, in addition to being quality representatives of the breed, are known to us to exhibit good health and termperament. We raise, show, and enjoy the breed ourselves and are serious about the time, effort and consideration necessary to produce quality Great Danes . . . given this, it should follow, that we are not a frequently breeding kennel.
It is not our intent to ever produce puppies for the masses, our Danes and those that we place, are raised to be family members, and to live in the home as an integral piece of their family’s lifestyle/activites. We care about every puppy produced and follow them and the joys they bring to families for their lifetime.
Twenty Years of Success

Our program goals have guided us for over 20 years and our success is evidenced here on this website. As AKC Breeders of Merit, silver level, we have a proven track record of breeding thoughtfully and responsibly for type, temperament, health, structure, and longevity. Every decision is weighed and executed in an effort to preserve the nobility, form, function, and history of this wonderful breed.
We are proud to produce Great Danes that are good representatives and great ambassadors of the breed. They absolutely should be happy, healthy, dependable and of sound mind and body.
These beautiful, devoted souls are a big part of our lives and a favorite pursuit. They live with us in our home as members of our family …… they are for love, for life and for show!

Placing Our Puppies
As breeders, we take the placement of puppies very seriously and extensively screen prospective buyers ~ with our puppies only going to approved companion and show homes. We feel breeder to buyer matches are just as important as puppy to family matches. Given this, every effort is made to make sure each puppy is matched to an appropriate home that is willing to make a lifetime commitment. It is important for us to know that families are on the same page as we are in regard to care and training philosophies and will provide the puppy the life we want them to live ~ one of a much-loved canine companion.
No puppy will leave before the age of 8 weeks, without a signed contract of sale/purchase agreement, and a reference check. We require a properly fenced yard. Please be aware a home check may be asked for. I know this seems like a lot, but we hope you appreciate that as preservation breeders we place our puppies carefully.
All of our puppies are raised in our home with daily love and interaction. There are exposed to family life including all the comings and goings of a busy household. Additionally we employ Biosensor, ENS, Avidog and Puppy Culture principles to raise happy, well rounded and enriched puppies. We believe in the science that supports this type of upbringing from birth provides the very best start for puppies and imparts benefits that last their lifetime. All of our puppies are properly enriched, socialized, started on basic house, potty, crate and leash training. We are committed to loving and starting every single puppy like they will be staying here at Paxton Great Danes.
We reserve the right to refuse a puppy to any home we feel is not a suitable match.

Thank you for your interest in our Great Danes!
If we are in between litters, please know, that we are active in the fancy and happy to assist you in your search. A large part of what we do as breeders is outreach and education. If you would like to stay in contact for a future litter we encourage that. We like to get to know potential families well before puppies arrive. We can also help refer you to a reputable rescue or other breeders. We entertain sincere questions about ourselves and our program. If you feel you would like to explore the idea of joining the Paxton Dane family please email us.
